2026 Chess Olympiad Schedule: India Defends Crown, Uzbekistan Hosts

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has officially released the schedule for the 46th Chess Olympiad, to be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 1 to 14, 2026. This edition carries special significance as India – the defending champion in both the Open and Women's sections – must defend its titles away from home, while host nation Uzbekistan, led by rising star Javokhir Sindarov, aims to spring a surprise on home soil. The most notable highlight of this Olympiad is the presence of both players who will contest the World Championship later in the year: reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju (India) and challenger Javokhir Sindarov (Uzbekistan).
